Tonzi: 2001-03-24 17:00:00 (DOY 83)
Author: Nancy Kiang
Others:

Summary: LAI-2000 measurements, BAI, sapflow, two days

WHO: Nancy Kiang
WHERE: Tonzi Ranch
WHEN: Overnight, 3/24/2001, returning 3/25/2001
WEATHER: 3/24/01 evening, clear, mild, 60's F
3/25/01 morning, overcast, mild, 50's F
WHAT: Measure branch area index of transects and sapflow trees

3/24/01. Arrived ~5 pm. Sunset at 6:01 pm. Measured transects T1 and T3 with LAI-2000 (Tracy's in open, Biomet lab's for under canopy), 2 measures every 2 m. Too dark by 6:45 pm.

3/25/01. Measured transect T2 at 5:45-6:00 am. Good sky conditions until past 7:00 am, so re-measured center transect T1, and measured BAI of each sapflow tre2001e (using 180-degree view caps on sensors to block trunk --
measured north and south side of trees).

-Checked understory flux system 8:20-8:45 am.
-Understory flux system was working fine.
-Solar panel battery voltage 12.77 V at 9:15 am.
-CR10X2 -- Soil temperatures okay, except Inloc #11 is showing -9999.
-CR23X -- Soil moisture values look okay (0.8-0.9)
-CR10X4 -- Sapflow Q okay. Downloaded CR10X4.dat, TZ4_01081.10x,
TZ4_01082.10x
-CR10X5 -- Sapflow P okay. Forgot to bring diskette with md9_5.c.
Downloaded CR10X5.dat.

Misc:
Mr. Tonzi's grandson, Rob, has a well upstream of our site with same water source as our trees. The well is 225' deep, flow of 10-12 gal/minute. The well has a pump that can do 5 gal/minute. The well is not itself accessible for hand sampling. This could be a source for deep water isotopes.

Comments:

-Dennis or Ted: Could one of you please make up a concise, easy-to-read, one-page table of the configuration of the CR10X2 and CR23X sensors (sensor id's, their connections to the dataloggers, the corresponding Edlog program, and the output of the program). PLEASE SEE MY EXAMPLE for the sapflow sensors in:
Amador:\Sites\Tonzi_Oak_Savanna\Sapflow\TonziSapflowConfig\TonziSapflowconfig.xls

If we can keep copies of these configurations in the enclosure box, it would make it easier for anyone to debug the system.
