6/24/2010 Arrived about 5am with Siyan for pre-dawn water potential. Not too cold and no wind before dawn. Warming to pleasant temperatures at midday, a few clouds but mostly sunny. The wind was light but increasing. The oaks look strong and fully green, especially in comparison to the dry grass. There are still a few flowers and greenness in the low areas. I checked the MD9 network and made a map of the all connections, MD9 and serial. Everything seems to be working correctly except a couple of the sap flow stations that probably have internal problems. I looked at the PC208W setups with and eye to upgrading to Loggernet. I need to digest the network map and decide what modifications will be best. I added a multiplexor and two soil heat flux plates to the new floor radiation data logger. One SHF plate with the net radiometer in the open (HFP01 sn 000141 coef 59.0 uV/W/m2) and one with the net radiometer under the trees (HFP01SC sn 00067 coef 58.4 uV/W/m2). The ground was very hard and crumbly and may not make for the best heat flux measurements until next year. I also ran an old serial line from the sap flow station that Dennis removed a while back to the CR10X for the floor radiation sensors so its data is now collected on the floor computer. I checked the HMP45 sensor on the top of the tower. It was a little loose in the radiation shield and I pushed it deeper into the shield and closer to the ventilation fan, which was operational. The Ameriflux comparison showed that the HMP45 was getting hot but otherwise seemed to agree with the standard well. I fixed the cow fence around the soil CO2 system. The tram doesn't seem to start running until 9am PST. Seems late to me, but at least it's running. I removed solar panels and wires from the previously removed sap flow site. I need to take containers for old batteries and trash next time. I brought in four fence posts for use at Twitchell. |
