Summary: Field planted with sorghum not corn, removed small wasps' nest, swapped 7500 for calibration

Dennis and I arrived at 11:25 PST (12:25 PDT). It was warm, sunny, and breezy. There were thunderclouds over the Sierras, but otherwise there were no clouds in the sky. There were many wasps flying around, and Dennis used the pump sprayer to remove a small nest from under the lower boardwalk.

Dennis observed that our field has been planted with sorghum! The stalks looked very similar to corn, so it was hard to tell the difference when the plants were first growing. However, the plants are shorter and the flowers look very different.

I downloaded met, cam, USB GHG, and PA data. Dennis cleaned flux and rad sensors. We swapped the LI-7500A for calibration: sn 75H-2180 came off and sn 0035 went on. I uploaded a new configuration file and updated the pressure coefficients. There was a 7700 clock error, so I checked the eddy clock and changed it +1min around 11:40 PST to match the laptop time. I restarted logging and confirmed that the clock error was fixed and all else we ok. The reservoir was full so we did not refill it.

Dennis wants us to take LI-2200C measurements in the sorghum for the rest of the season so we can compare the LAI with the zcam data this year.

We left at 11:45 PST (12:45 PDT). On the way to the alfalfa site, we stopped at the barn to get a sense of sorghum management and when we might need to move our ground sensors out of the field. No one at the barn knew about sorghum and they said that another group manages those fields by the Duck Club. I’ll e-mail Charlotte to ask.
