Bouldin Alfalfa: 2023-09-06 15:00:00 (DOY 249)
Author: Daphne Szutu
Others: Kyle
Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, only 1 day of camera photos--fixed, downloaded Nikira data and cleared its memory
2023-09-06 Bouldin Alfalfa Kyle and I arrived around 15:00 PDT. It was warm, sunny, and breezy. Kyle noticed a lot of bird poop on the scaffolding but the sensors were relatively clean. The alfalfa is growing, but it's sparser than earlier in the season. Kyle took veg height and spectral measurements. She said some of the “up” measurements said they were saturated, so she just took “down” measurements since skies were clear. Back in the lab, there was no data on the card and the card had popped out of the jaz slot. I downloaded the usual data: met, cam, USB GHG, FD, and IRT. I changed the eddy clock +1min from 14:26 to 14:27 PST and restarted logging. There was only 1 day of data on the camera card. I power cycled the camera and then used telnet to run phenocam_upload.sh. No new photos appeared on the card. I checked that I could ftp to the CR1000 to make sure the camera and the datalogger could connect: ftp successful. I reformatted the card through LoggerNet File Control and re-ran phenocam_upload.sh: no photos. Last time Joe had to edit the IR_ftp.scr and ftp.scr to remove an extra “^M” character from the end of the password. I checked the same files and removed the extra “^M” character again. Probably last time we forgot to save the configuration through “config save,” so the .scr files reverted to their previous version during the overnight reboot. This time I saved the edited configuration files and rebooted the camera. Running phenocam_upload.sh again resulted in photos saved to the card, but there was an error message about not finding the overlay file, so the photos said “testcam” instead of “bouldinalfalfa” on the overlay. I edited “current_overlay0.conf” to change the text from “testcam” to “bouldinalfalfa”—not sure why the overlay file lost this information. I saved the config, rebooted, and ran phenocam_upload.sh. Now the photos show up on the card with the correct overlay text. The 7500 read: 401ppm CO2, 601mmol/m3 H2O, 29.1C, 101.1kPa, 97SS--99 after cleaning I downloaded the Nikira data. The first download stopped prematurely, not sure why. The number of files looked right but the folder was only 2.3Gb instead of the expected ~8Gb. I called Brian, who told me how to check the size of the folder on the sensor and told me to try the download again. The second download worked (took about 30min), but I was missing the 33 files that accumulated during the download. I called Brian again, who said he didn’t need me that ~30min of data. He instructed me to reboot, delete the old folders, and then reboot again. I confirmed that new files are being saved in one of the new folders. We left at 16:45 PDT. |
