Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, LAI2200C transect, IRT datalogger lithium battery dead - swapped temporarily, first heat wave last weekend

Dennis, Ngoc, and I arrived at 12:15 PDT. We are doing regular data collection while Joe is in Japan. It was sunny, clear, and warm. An occasional cool breeze helped keep the temperature down.

Dennis got started with the soil moisture measurements. Ngoc took the water levels and the three wells and then helped Dennis finish the soil moisture measurements.

I got started with checking the data. At the LattePanda, I checked the Status Monitor and “Reset Device” for the three data tables that had a red “secondary” as their collection status: CR1000 Towermet, CR6 CO2prof, and CR1000 IRT. I then checked the files in the Data folder; Towermet and CO2prof were up to date, but the IRT data file was last modified on 2023-06-18 01:30. I went to go power cycle it, but the lithium battery was dead. Before we left, I replaced it with the lithium battery I had brought to power the white laptop. The IRT datalogger booted ok and the data file updated on the LattePanda. Joe said the dead lithium battery is probably because of a solar charging problem.

At the tower top, I moved the phenocam photos off of the card, replaced the card, and downloaded Tower GHG data. I changed the Tower eddy clock +45sec around 11:30 PST to match the laptop time and restarted logging afterwards. I also removed the Arduino RSB dfPAR sensor (CR1000 sn 4190, PAR sn 010164). It has been running for two weeks so Joe will look at its data and we can probably install it at Vaira. I did not clear the radiometers or the IRGA at the tower top since they looked pretty clean.

We all set up the LAI2200C together. Both wands were fitted with a 45deg view cap. The “Above” wand was set up by the road, in the clearing east of the tower. It was pointing northwest (parallel to the road and auto-logging measurements every 5 seconds. Dennis and Ngoc walked around with the “Below” wand and took measurements every 3 steps, with multiple measurements by two of the zcams (Dennis wasn’t sure where the third zcam was). Their measurements should also have been parallel with the road, pointing northwest. After they finished, I took 4A scattering measurements with the “Below” wand in the clearing near the “Above” wand.

I collected the remaining data: GlobalWater from the Road well, Floor GHG, Floor well, both FD chambers (cleared their memories), three zcams, and the dendrometers. I changed the Floor eddy clock +45sec from 12:48:30 to 12:49:30 PST to match the laptop time and restarted logging afterwards. Before we left I “moved” all the data files from the lattePanda Data and Data/OSU folders.

After they finished the LAI2200C walkabout, Dennis and Ngoc took pressure bomb measurements around 14:00 PDT (13:00 PST).

We left around 15:00 PDT. On the way home Dennis treated us to ice cream in Walnut Grove. Thanks, Dennis!
