I arrived at about 13:30 PDT. It was clear, sunny and hot with some puffy clouds over the mountains. There was a bit of tropical rain at the coast on Wednesday, but doesn’t look like it fell here. The pond is really low.

I did midday water potential. The numbers were a little lower than two weeks ago. The growing season may be past peak.

I collected data from the tower. All seemed well there running on four batteries. I repaired a solar power wire that the woodpeckers had pecked the insulation off. It was the main positive line down to the charge controller connected to the lower west panel. I cut the bad part off and rerouted it through a hole on the bottom side of the junction box taping up the original hole on the top side of the box.

The Floor batteries are in poor shape and the system is only getting daylight data. We are only getting about 46% of the daily data. My plan is to move the four slightly used batteries currently running the Tower to the Floor and buy six new AGM batteries for the Tower.

I did the Moisture Point measurements, DBH, serviced the z-cams and measured the wells. I partially fixed the denrometer on Tree 1. The tree had destroyed half the hinge that holds the gauge on the tree. I pried the remains out of the bark and reattached the gauge with the remaining half hinge. The metal band needs to be longer and the set screw is a little wiggly. Probably should be replaced.

I did some rewiring on the OSU-SP1 CR3000. I changed the NR01 4-way wiring from double ended to single ended to free up a couple of channels for the two SHF plates on the defunct Soil CO2 CR23X. I also spread out the Decagon TE soil moisture probes on the AM16/32 to only use one serial port instead of two so that I could use the other control ports for SDI-12 coms with the Soilvue and water potential sensor. I uploaded a new program from the tower but because these sensors measure only every 10min or so it was hard to tell if everything was working. There were numbers before I left but need to accumulate some data.

I let at about 16:50

When I left Tonzi the car said 103F. When I got back to Berkeley it said 64F.
