Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, Iryna and Eric's visit, hot day, swapped miniDOT batteries

East End

Robert, Iryna, Eric (Iryna’s new PhD student), and I arrived at 13:45 PDT. Iryna and Eric wanted to see the wetland sites (especially the tidal sites). It was hot and muggy and the car thermometer read 37C (99F) when we arrived. To access the tower, we had to go through one sheep enclosure southeast of the tower along the north-south gravel road. Iryna, Eric, and Robert inspected the plants growing by the walkway. They were excited to see a plant with cattail-like leaves with a distinct longitudinal crease in the leaf structure.

The water level here is going down; the staff gauge read 20cm.

I downloaded met, cam, and USB GHG data. I downloaded miniDOT data, swapped its batteries, and made sure to turn on the miniDOT before redeploying it. I changed the desiccant for the miniDOT and water level sensor. Robert topped off the wash reservoir.

Robert and Eric cleaned flux and rad sensors.

I’m pretty sure I updated the eddy clock to match the laptop time, probably setting it forward by 30-60 seconds.

Robert and I replaced the 7700 power cable. The original one was accidentally cut and temporarily fixed with a screw terminal. This original cable can be used in the lab where we don’t need such a long cable. The new power cable is longer by about 2m to allow for easier cable organization. The cables still need to be organized, though, not today when it’s so hot. After the swap, I confirmed that the 7700 was connected to the 7550 and the data looked reasonable.

The 7500 read: 412ppm CO2, 687mmol/m3 H2O, 34.5C, 100.6kPa, 90SS -- 92 after cleaning
The 7700 read: 2.1ppm CH4 --> 2.2ppm after power cable swap, 62RSSI – 80 after cleaning and power cable swap

We left at 14:15 PDT.
