Summary: Entered through levee gate, 7700 power disconnected--fixed, Installed picam, Only 2 photos on Stardot card, Removed rad cal kit
2021-09-15 Mayberry Joe and I arrived at 10:10 PDT. It was cool and windy with hazy horizons but no other clouds in the sky. Our key did not work on any of the locks at the main Sherman gate. We called Bryan, who told us that DWR has had to replace a few locks at that gate recently because they keep being cut. However, our key still works at the gate on the levee road by the vineyard, so we entered there. The levee road has been mowed up until the Mayberry gate. At Mayberry, the tules are looking green and thick, and the cattails seem to recovering from the caterpillars earlier in the season. The staff gauge read 48cm, and it needs to be cleaned next time. During the last site visit we dropped the level in the water from the folding boom. Joe brought a strong magnet on a metal rod to poke around in the water, but he didn’t find the level. The reservoir was mostly full; we did not top it off but we left the lid open to discourage wasps. A small spot on the NR01 temperature cable looked chewed. There were some cracks in the sheaths of individual wires. I taped it up with electrical tape for now. The 7700 was not showing up in the 7550 software. When I checked the cables, the black lead on the power cable for both the 7700 and the 7550 were disconnected from the screw terminal in the power junction box. I don’t know why the 7550 was still working at that moment, but I think that explains some of the missing GHG data over the last 2 weeks. I reconnected the black leads and checked that the 7550 and 7700 were running and connected. I need to improve this power junction box so it has pluggable strips with capacity to handle 1 pair from the panel and 5 output pairs to sensors. I checked the GHG numbers. The optics RH had decreased from 36% last visit to 24% today after I swapped the bottle of drierite for a bottle of silica gel desiccant. This time we put in a bottle of fresh drierite and removed the bottle of silica gel desiccant. The optics RH should be ok until the next 7700 calibration in 2 months when we can flush out the headspace with zero air. I downloaded flux data and checked the stardot photos. There was only 1 hour of photos from the stardot, but not sure why because all the cables seemed well connected and I didn’t see any card errors. Joe installed the picam sn RPI0W-003 next to the Stardot camera so we can continue the camera intercomparison with a similar view angle from all cameras. The picam is now taking two photos each time - one with auto white balance and one with fixed white balance. He also cleaned the enclosure window for the Canon camera. I downloaded the rad cal kit data and we removed the sensors to move to Gilbert Tract.
