Sherman Wetland: 2020-06-02 09:00:00 (DOY 154)
Author: Daphne Szutu
Others: Christiana
Summary: Permanent tower: regular data download/cleaning Temporary tower: regular data download/cleaning, tall cattails, no water in front of tower
2020-06-02 Sherman Wetland Christiana (UCM visitor) and I arrived at 9:00. Christiana is interested in installing some floating chambers in an open water area in one of our wetlands. It was a hot day with mostly clear skies and a little breeze. The tules and cattails are looking good and green. The water level was 85 cm. I downloaded met, camera, USB GHG, and miniDOT data. I swapped the water level and miniDOT desiccants. I cleaned the flux and rad sensors—there were spiderwebs all over the flux sensors and I evicted a spider from the top of the 7700 cap. The wash reservoir was mostly full; I topped it off. The eosGP was out of the water when we arrived. I moved it down into the water, but its cable is pressed under some blowndown reeds. Next time with boots or waders we should move the reeds and cable-tie the eosGP cable to the boardwalk. LI-7500 readings: CO2 413ppm H2O 632ppm T 25.9C P 101.5kPa SS 97--> 99 after cleaning LI7700 readings: CH4 2.0 ppm RSSI 40--> 82 after cleaning We left at 9:50. 2020-06-02 Sherman Wetland Temporary Tower I arrived at 13:40 PST. It was a hot and breezy day with mostly clear skies. Queen Anne’s Lace is starting to crowd the road to the tower. The cattails in front of the tower have grown to be more than 2m tall, and provide a little bit of shade when standing on the lower boardwalk. Again, there was no water in front of the tower. I downloaded met, camera, and USB GHG. I cleaned the flux and rad sensors—there were spiderwebs all over the flux sensors. The inside of the 7700 cap was very clean since we had just swapped it last time with the 7700 calibration. The wash reservoir was mostly full; I left it as is. LI-7500 readings: CO2 399ppm H2O 728ppm T 30.4C P 101.6kPa SS 92--> 94 after cleaning LI7700 readings: CH4 1.93ppm RSSI 50--> 70 after cleaning I left at 14:05. Looking at the data in the lab, the HMP air temperature started going bad about a week ago. It might be a loose wire or a bad connection with the mux pluggable strip. If not, there should be a spare HMP60 in the lab. |
