Sherman
10/15/2009 Arrived about 9:30PDT. Clear, sunny, cool. The field is as wet as I have ever seen it. Lost of standing water in the mid to west end and north third is a big puddle. Talked to Walt. Someone lock him out of the field again. I fixed our lock on the way out. Additionally, Walt was upset about finding orange marker flags in the field. He says that if these get cut when he mows the field the cows eat the pieces and die from a punctured stomach. And that the T-post marking the soil moisture probes in the field are a hazard to is tractor tires. Walt says he has been running cows on that field for almost 20 years and that when he started the field was 8 feet high in noxious weeds. Pepper weed has been there are long as Walt can remember – almost 20 years. Other reports say pepper weed has been in the delta at large for 30 years. System up and running. LGR stats: 8:22, 1.982ppm, 22.56C, 142.26Torr, 17.292usec, 10Hz, 3794.7hr I replaced the computer. Replacement computer setup to record data from the three CR10x data loggers and do daily rename. Also setup to get images from the web cam every 30 minutes from 7:15am to 7:15pm. All three of the Campbell enclosures were full of argentine ants. The fast radiation 10X and AM25T had colonies inside them and I had to take them apart to chase the ants out. I left these apart while I went to Twitchell and returned about 2pm to finish cleaning out the ants and reassemble the units. I added silicon to all the wire ports that provided access to the ants. Maybe not 100% especially on the met box, but should be a lot better. I put a metal screen over the funnel on the CH4 inlet. This should keep the bugs out of the inlet. Data collected, card not swapped. Sonic started reporting garbage during height of the storm so we don’t have max wind seeds. Rain was reported at 75mm (2.9 in). |
