Summary: Hot and dry, changed Tower co2 profile program, new CF card for phenocam, swapped battery at road well.

I arrived at about 11am with Siyan. It was clear, sunny and hot. There is a pall of smoke everywhere, not enough to smell except for an occasional whiff but the distance is hazy and there is a slight burn in your eyes and a heaviness to the air in your nose. The pond continues the shrink and the trees donâ€™t look so happy with some leaves turning brown. The cow fences are unpowered and we will leave them that way until the fire weather abates.

The Latte Panda had to be reset to get the screen to show up and then the mouse didnâ€™t work. I moved off the FLIR images with the command line. The images stopped on August 1st. A second restart got the mouse working. I changed the collection interval from 10min to 30min. Iâ€™ll start work in the lab to improve the Latte Panda setup.

I collected data and Siyan did the regular fieldwork including midday water potential and servicing the z-cams. I cleaned the radiometers.

The TowerCR1000 had only recorded 127 phenocam images again. I swapped in the new 16GB SanDisk Ultra card. It takes a little time for the card to initialize but seemed to be working.

I collected data from the OSU equipment. I had problems connecting to SP1 and SP2 but I think it was due to the USB to serial converter. I ended up using the other USB-serial converter on SP2 and SP3. I also matched serial numbers to sensor locations for all three spots.

The battery on the Road Well had died. I removed it and the solar charge controller and swapped in two 9V alkaline batteries like the original system.

After collecting the Vaisala Tower co2 profile data, I changed the program to no longer collect the high frequency sampled data but only the 30min averages.
