East End

We arrived at 11:30. It was cool, breezy, and overcast. Large patches of tule/cattail have been blown down. Kyle and Dennis talked with one person by the pumphouse to ask about the NOAA truck with boundary layer profile instruments. That person also reported strong winds and 4" of rain recently.

The setup we have at Twitchell Island is our Mobile Atmospheric River Observatory (MARO). Equipment includes a 915-MHz wind profiling radar which measures winds to heights of 6 km, a S-band precipitation profiler which continuously monitors precipitation echoes overhead and observes the more strongly reflective regions of clouds, a Trimble GPS which gives us the integrated precipitable water in the vertical column above the unit, and a 10-m meteorological tower with pressure, temperature, relative humidity, solar radiation and wind speed and direction. The project is sponsored by the CA Department of Water Resources looking at precipitation processes impacting the Feather River watershed above the Oroville Dam. We have a similar setup in Oroville. Data from all of our sites can be viewed at: https://www.esrl.noaa.gov/psd/data/obs/datadisplay/. Depending on funding, the MARO should remain at Twitchell Island through the 2018-2019 precipitation season.

The 7550 box had standing water in it covering the circuit board. We sopped up the water using rags. Part of the gasket on the box lid had come out of its channel; we squished it back into place. We should re-attach the gasket securely or swap out the 7550 box.

The wash box was empty; we refilled it. The 7700 wash and clock settings seemed fine.

I collect met, camera, USB GHG, and minidot data.
