Sherman Wetland
2017-06-28

Kyle and I were helping Patty and her student set up her LGR isotope system today. Kyle and I stopped by about 9:45 to drop off some supplies and then went to the old Twitchell Rice site to get some more stuff. We got the 4’x8’ wooden base that the Rice solar panels were mounted on and four 4x4 posts from the old Sherman Pasture cow fence.

Back at Sherman Wetland about 10:30, we carried the lumber, four concrete piers and a cal gas tank out to the tower. We essentially tacked the wooden base on to the end of the existing boardwalk. The boardwalk and tower scaffolding were not aligned so we moved the north end of the tower scaffolding to the west by about 20cm. We put in the four 4x4 posts on top of the concrete piers to support the end and middle on the wooden base and attached the south end of the base to the north end on the boardwalk. We put some diagonal cross braces on the posts and it seemed very stable.

Patty and Max arrived about 11am with the geology team. The geology team ran a transect along the east side of the levee just outside the wetland and then went to Mayberry.

Patty and max laid out two runs of 3x10ga stranded cable in heavy black insulation. Most of the line from the breaker box, through the levee and along the levee to the boardwalk went into flexible aluminum conduit. There is still some exposed wire on the levee near the boardwalk that Patty will cover with split loom. They dug a shallow trench and buried the lines across the levee. I put boxes with two-spot outlets on the ends at the tower. At the power pole there are three 20A breakers. The top one goes to the line to the tower that has a metal box. The middle one goes to a GFI outlet in a box on the power pole. The bottom breaker goes to the line to the tower that has a plastic box. Patty plugged her AC unit into one line and the rest of the equipment into a Triplite line conditioner plugged into the other line.

The LGR analyzer equipment went into an old refrigerator laying on its back with its bottom facing to the south. The door opens from the side facing the tower and the AC unit is mount on its top to the north.
