Sherman Island: 2007-04-05 10:30:00 (DOY 95)
Author: Dennis Baldocchi
Others: Ted Hehn, Alex Knohl

Summary: Installed and started flux system. Theta soil probes installed. Sherman Island data downloaded. TDR soil moisture readings taken. Spectrometer reflectance readings taken.

When: Date: 4/5/2007 , Day: 95

Watch Time: 1030 .

Where: Sherman Island Methane Study

Who: ddb, Ted Hehn, Alex Knohl

Weather: Partly sunny, mild spring day, light winds from west

Phenology: pig weed about 18 inches tall and very active
Installed Flux system and started it!
LICOR sn 0042
The methane system is operating at 10 Hz. We need to think should we operate at 5 Hz and sample at 10 Hz, like the Licor, or operate and 10 Hz and sample at 10 Hz.
Installed theta probe soil probes. Matteo had dug a trench with the trencher. It was starting to dry, so I cut back on the wall.
Clocks on tdl and computer are on standard time. Clocks were adjusted to satellite time, according to Ted’s cell phone.
The Methane sensor is operating at 162 torr. We got similar concentrations at low and high flow rates, 1866 ppb. Contacted Doug Baer and he says 162 is ok.
Sensor sn 64/068 at 10 cm
Sensor sn 70/002 at 20 cm
Sensor sn 70/020 at 30 cm

ToDo
• We need to determine tubing length and time delay.
• Measure sonic height and sensor separation.
• Measure and adjust sonic azimuth to north
• Install additional in line filter; get swage lock connectors
• Need to wire 3rd theta probe

Tasks
1. check and download data at Sherman Island
2. Take TDR soil moisture readings
3. take spectrometer reflectance reading
4. Sample additional water Table ports
5. Sample LAI and plant height

Sherman Island Pasture Site
1. Fence and gate power: v.
2. Datalogger Solar Panel and Batteries: v;
3. Reading from Gillsonic screen before downloading data. (The value of H2O and CO2 should be in the range of 0 – 5 v.)
4. Methane Sensor
a. Cell Pressure (near 159 Torr?):___162 torr_
b. Cell Temperature: __27.3___
c. Double Check
i. Sample rate: 10Hz?:__10 hz__
ii. Methane ppm Hi flow: 1866 pb
iii. Methane ppm, low flow (remember to put back in high flow:
iv. Pump status??:____operating
v. Filter Status:______new
vi. Check Water in tube: installed

5. downloading data
6. If Swapping Li-7500 Analyzer. (Remove SN# ; install SN# )
7. Check the fans of air temp. and relative humidity sensors
8. Check MD-9 system connections
9. Check CR23X with two multiplexers and sensor values
10. Check levels of Radiation sensors, clear up surfaces.
Closed gate and set up fence.
