Summary: Power out but fixed, multiplexor reset, CR1000 program changed, computer battery changed.

I arrived about 10:15am with Dennis. It was a very clear, cold day with a light breeze from the southwest. There was ice on the puddles on the way up and at the site. The grass is maintaining but not growing much with the cold weather. The last brown leaves on the trees have fallen. We could see snow in the higher mountains.

The main solar system was down again. We had voltage as long as there was no load, but as soon as a load was applied the voltage would drop to about 2V. We by passed the solar charger, check the line to the tower, unwired individual loads to try and isolate the problem. We even isolated all the batteries before we discovered a break in the power line from the batteries to the solar charge controller. Part of the insulation had come off the wire on the ground and the copper had rotted away. We replaced the cable from the batteries to the charge controller with some extra length of the line to the tower. Then we rewired everything we took apart and power was restored. About seven days of flux data was lost.

Before powering up I replaced the lithium battery on the computer’s mother board. On reboot I reset the clock with my cell phone and set the computer to restart on power failure.

I changed the CR1000 program ejecting the card before the program upload. The new program has a check to avoid parsing a non-message from the sonic and dumping bogus values into the sonic data stream.

The multiplexor on the met system was offset one channel again. I noticed this in the data last time. I restarted the data logger and it fixed itself. I’m not sure of the root cause, but we need to keep an eye on this.

Dennis cleaned the radiometers.
