Bouldin Alfalfa: 2022-11-02 10:30:00 (DOY 306)
Author: Daphne Szutu
Others: Joe, Carlos, Ari
Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, decommission advection Bouncer/Edge tower, start intercomparison for sonics and RH/T sensors, alfalfa mowed but not baled
2022-11-02 Bouldin Alfalfa Joe, Carlos, Ari, and I arrived at 10:30 PDT. It was a cool and breezy day with many cumulus clouds after yesterday's rain. It was intermittently overcast and sunny with a few sprinkles and some nice rainbows in the afternoon. The alfalfa has been mowed, but I'm not sure if it's going to be baled this time because the loose alfalfa is wet from the rain. More rain is expected this weekend and next week. In neighboring fields to the east we saw some bales and some loose piles of alfalfa in the fields. Joe thinks the baler ran out of string and they didn't notice for a while. Today we are decommissioning the advection towers (Bouncer, Edge), and moving the sonics and RH/T sensors to the main tower for an intercomparison. Edge Tower We started at the Edge tower at 10:30 PDT. I downloaded all of the data and unwired the dataloggers while others removed all of the structure and sensors. The Rnet was very dirty here. The 7500 read: 412ppm CO2, 500mmol/m3 H2O, 14.1C, 101.9kPa, 101SS Removed sensors: Anemometer Edge Lower: sn 152603 heading 9 deg, Moved to main tower for inter-comparison Anemometer Edge Upper: sn 152601 heading 92 deg, Moved to main tower for inter-comparison Data Logger Edge Flux: sn 2115 Moved to main tower for inter-comparison Data Logger Edge Met: sn 2303 Removed Gas Analyzer Edge CO2/H2O: sn 0042 Removed Heat Flux Plate Edge A: sn 003073 Removed Heat Flux Plate Edge B: sn PC3 Removed Heat Flux Plate Edge C: sn PC4 Removed Interface Edge LI-7550: sn AIU-0674 Removed Net Radiometer Edge: sn 990350 Removed RH & Temp Edge Lower: sn T1020004 Moved to main tower for inter-comparison RH & Temp Edge Upper: sn D4420028 Moved to main tower for inter-comparison Soil Moisture Probe Edge A: sn 17130 Removed Soil Moisture Probe Bouncer B: sn M001972 Removed Solar Controller Edge: sn 19391162 Removed Solar Panel Edge A: sn 020854E-6-03-02-06862 Removed Solar Panel Edge B: sn 024398E-1-26-04-99974 Removed Battery Bank sn BB-BA-edge Bouncer Tower We got to the Bouncer tower at 11:43 PDT. Again, I downloaded all of the data and unwired sensors while others removed all of the structure and sensors. The Rnet was relatively clean here. The 7500 read: 414ppm CO2, 360mmol/m3 H2O, 14.1C, 101.9kPa, 96SS Removed sensors: Anemometer Bouncer Lower: sn 153804 heading 352 deg, Moved to main tower for inter-comparison Anemometer Bouncer Upper: sn 152606 heading 335 deg, Moved to main tower for inter-comparison Data Logger Bouncer Flux: sn 2114 Moved to main tower for inter-comparison Data Logger Bouncer Met: sn 2300 Removed Gas Analyzer Bouncer CO2/H2O: sn 75H-0128 Removed Heat Flux Plate Bouncer A: sn 003072 Removed Heat Flux Plate Bouncer B: sn PC1 Removed Heat Flux Plate Bouncer C: sn PC2 Removed Interface Bouncer LI-7550: sn AIU-2312 Removed Net Radiometer Bouncer: sn 990353 Removed RH & Temp Bouncer Lower: sn T2930114 Moved to main tower for inter-comparison RH & Temp Bouncer Upper: sn D4420029 Moved to main tower for inter-comparison Soil Moisture Probe Bouncer A: sn 17131 Removed Soil Moisture Probe Edge B: sn M003371 Removed Solar Controller Bouncer : sn 03220377 Removed Solar Panel Bouncer A: sn 020854E-6-03-02-06825 Removed Solar Panel Bouncer B: sn 020854E-6-03-02-06832 Removed Battery Bank sn BB-BA-bncr Main Tower We got to the main tower at 12:45 PDT. Joe, Carlos, and Ari got started removing the advection sensors. Ari cleaned the radiometers and also took spectral measurements. Carlos cleaned the 7500 and trimmed the alfalfa under the tower and PL Arables. I downloaded all of the usual data: met, cam, USB GHG, FD, and IRT. I also downloaded all of the advection data for the last time. I set the Licor clock +1min from 11:48 to 11:49 PST to match the laptop time and restarted logging. SWout was bad for the past 2 weeks. After some digging it was a programming mistake I introduced last time after moving LWin to a different mux channel. LWin and SHF2 seem fine now after I moved them to different mux channels at the last site visit. I updated the CR1000 program with the fix and to remove the advection instructions for the two additional RH/T sensors. Lower sonic was moved to the higher level for intercomparison and it is sn 152608 and heading was 357. Joe set up the six advection sonics and six RH/T sensors on the main tower for the intercomparison. The intercomparison sensors are at the same height as the tower sonic/HMP. We wired up the intercomparison sensors to the Adex CR1000 and the two CR6s that came down from Bouncer/Edge tower. I uploaded new programs to all three dataloggers: Adex CR1000 and 4 sonics, one CR6 has 2 sonics, and one CR6 has all 6 RH/T sensors. The sonic data are stored at 20Hz and the RH/T data are stored at 30min. We forgot to bring an extra bare-wire lead for one of the sonics, sn 152601, which we'll wire in tomorrow. Intercomparison sonics, from north to south: 1. sn 152603, heading = 327 true N (332 true N measured 2022-11-30), wired to CR1000 SE 9-12 2. sn 153804, heading = 329 true N (333 true N measured 2022-11-30), wired to CR1000 SE13-16 3. sn 152606, heading = 231 true N (233 true N measured 2022-11-30), wired to CR1000 SE1-4 4. sn 152601, heading = 268 true N (262 true N measured 2022-11-30), wired to CR6 U5-U8 5. sn 152605, heading = 305 true N (293 true N measured 2022-11-30), wired to CR6 U1-U4 6. sn 152608, heading = 257 true N (249 true N measured 2022-11-30), wired to CR1000 SE 5-8 Main sonic is sn 074417, heading = 251 true N Intercomparison RH/T sensors, in no particular physical order.
