Summary: Retested tipping bucket still wonky, repaired chewed Floor well cable, replaced Road well battery pack, no soil moisture or manual well depth due to lack on field equipment
Tonzi 2020-11-11 Hisashi, Kyoko and I arrived at 10:30. It was cool with high thin clouds and a light breeze. The trees are mostly bare or have brown leaves. There was a bit of rain a few days ago but only enough to pockmark the dust on the solar panels and boxes – I barely saw any evidence of the rain in the dust on the ground. More rain is due within the next week. I retested the tipping bucket on the soil CO2 system. Last time I adjusted the screws in the wrong direction (one full turn CW). I undid this and made the correct adjustment (in total two full turns CCW). I poured water into the dispensing bottle before I turned on the data logger and missed the first handful of tips. Still the total ended up at 90 tips. I adjusted the screws back a half turn CW, refilled the bottle from the spray bottle and tested it again. The second test also ended up with 90 tips. I’m not sure where the error is but will test aging next time. I collected data from the data loggers, the Licors and the FD chambers (not clearing their memories). The tree IRT had lost its radio connection – the antenna was twisted down. I righted the antenna and restarted the CR1000. This got the data sent to the tower computer. Floor 7500: 421.5ppm CO2, 316.6mmol/m3 H2O, 99.5kPa, 15.3C, 102.3SS Tower 7500: 416.2ppm CO2, 327.5mmol/m3 H2O, 99.3kPa, 14.8C, 103.4SS Something had chewed off the Floor well cable near the junction box at the well. I added a bit of plastic pipe to cover the part of the wire that was previously exposed and was able to reconnect the wire to the screw terminal inside the junction box. The lithium power pack at the road well was dead last time. I replaced it with a freshly charged pack and collected the road well data but the water level is below the well sensor. The sensors clock was about 24min ahead – I reset it but did not notice if the date was correct. H & K serviced the z-cams, I read the dendrometers but no manual well depth or soil moisture because Siyan still has the field equipment. The FLIR camera will not run again but we will keep the IRTs running for possible comparison with ECOSTRESS. We left at 13:00 |
