Summary: Flux system losing power over night, reconnected two solar panels for winter, Diffuse PAR mis-wired - fixed, ppt bucket wire broken, fixed and tested, swapped soil moisture probe, change soil moisture warm up to 5sec
| When: Thurs, 22Oct04 JD-296 Where: Vaira Ranch Who: Ted Hehn Weather Cool and clear after first heavy rain of the season. Vegetation is not yet sprouting from soil Trip Purpose General site visit Vaira Ranch: 15:00 Arrive computer on, Gillsonic traces are stopped the date reads 296 and the time 09:59. The system died this morning. The transmit LED on the sonic is blinking at 10 Hz. Shut down gillsonic and let PC208 reboot gillsonic. The flux platform appears to have been running only during daylight hours for the past week. Reconnect 2 solar panels so the system is now running on 8 panels. The diffuse radiation sensor is not responding when I cover the sensor. The red LED is not on. The power return lead was placed in the terminal for the signal return and therefore power was not flowing into the device. Place power return lead in ground terminal and the device begins functioning. Note: The black signal lead for the precip gauge was broken off and not connected to anything. The precip gauge was not working. Repair and test precip gauge. Ok it is now functioning. Test MUX with 1.5 volt battery input to soil moisture 4 & 5 channels and the logger successfully reads 1508 mvolt. Check probe #5 response with DVM and responds from 0.0 to 0.167 volt upon power up. Remove soil moisture probe # 5 sn 54/007 and install sn 64/072. New probe responds from 0.0 to 0.450 volts upon power up. Victory!!! Modify CR23x program: Change delay time after soil moisture power up from 0.01 to 5.0 sec. |
