Summary: Installed web cam, Verizon modem, added missing channels to 23X output.

4/14/2009 I arrived about 10:30 am, clear cool windy. Later partly cloudy and windier. Everything was running, batteries were above 14V. I installed a Dlink DS900 web cam on a pole on the east side of the solar panels. The cam points west with some sky and the top of the tower in view. Probably need to point it more to the north to avoid sun. The camera is connected to the computer with and Ethernet crossover cable. The data lines are white/orange, orange, white/green, and green. The other two pairs are used for power: white/blue and blue are +12VDC and white/brown and brown are Ground. There is a DC regulator in the camera enclosure to take the 12VDC down to 5VDC for input to the camera. I also installed the Verizon internet link. I actively used the link in the field and an auto-upload script connected to UCB, However, this morning no more response. I fixed the CR23x program to add missing data channels to the final storage. Auto file rename should be working now for the CR1000 Fast data. In connecting power to the camera I caused some power fluctuations. I initially had a small short in the camera case. Also, the way the terminal strip is put together, loosening some screws cuts power to lines down stream. Results, the CR1000 lost its program, which I reloaded and the computer screen seems to have been damaged. After fixing the power problems, the screen seemed dimmer and definite discoloration in parts of the image. Data for April 9th through 14th have been updated on the Data PC. I talked to Jim Casey, he says they are still watching the field conditions, but planting is scheduled for Monday the 20th. Also met woman from Davis, (Cynthia) doing chamber measurements. 4” pvc syringe samples for CO2, CH4 and N2O. Measuring several spots south of extensometer. |
