Summary: Forest Floor Flux system was set up & functioning.

Much progress was made yesterday at the Tonzi and Vaira ranches

1. Forest Floor Flux system is up and running, 1700 hours. Early in the morning we had to power it up. Twice it would not run, so I unplugged the 12v cord and reset the sonic. Then it ran. Something to watch.

2. Campbell data loggers are linked via MD9s. The network is as follows

Md9 #2 is the soil temperature system, CR10x. It is written to disk as cr10x2.dat on c:\tonzi and at the end of the day the program md9_2.exe converts the filename to:

TZ2_yrday.10x

We added extra sensors to this logger. We added a T and RH sensor near the forest floor. The output string is modified to reflect this on D60 ~1700

Ch 3 is Tair

Ch 4 is Relative humidity

MD9 #3 is the soil moisture system, cr23x3. It is writtent to disk as cr23x3.dat on c:\tonzi and at the end of the day the program md9_3.exe converts the filename to:

TZ3_yrday.23x

We added two soil moisture probes at 50 cm to this logger.

Ch 6 is ML2x sn 54/009

Ch 7 is ML2x sn 54/004

MD9 #4 is the sap flow system of Nancy, cr10x4. It is writtent to disk as cr10x4.dat on c:\tonzi and at the end of the day the program md9_4.exe converts the filename to:

TZ4_yrday.10x

The tower bits were transported to the site and unloaded. A crew from Beckman tower came and surveyed the site. They will install the foundation and tower as soon as it dries. We all got stuck in the mud yesterday. They will get the building permit, as Terry Weatherby should have signed off on the plans by now. The contact at Beckman is Steve Haywood 559-275-4030, His cell phone is 1-559-269-2176.

They have to place the tower a bit away from near the tree we want to sample, and near the solar panels. We’ll have to move the panels, as stuff will drop on them. We also should put the panels on the tower above the trees for better view.

The data loggers are arranged in the following manner.

Soil Temperature Data Logger, CR10x, MD9 2

101,5,1330,17.69,14.7,12.82,10.43,8.81,9.71,15.17,13.31,10.98,8.86,9.41,15.41,13.26,11.09,8.95,9.8,19.13,16.17,12.64,9.32,9.48,.034,-.034,.045,.095,.039,99.5,12.36,897
