Sherman Island Notes
12/16/2008 (351)

I arrived at Sherman Island about 11:30am. It was cold and windy (>6m/s) from the north. Cows in the area around the tower. Pepper weed is dead and beaten down by the cows, new green grass becoming visible on the ground. There was 8” (20cm) of water in the water trap closest to the box, which I drained.

Power was up and everything but winflux was running. The system must have restarted the day before (350) and Windows grabbed the serial port as a mouse and wouldn’t let winflux have it. I disabled the serial mouse in the hardware manager so maybe this won’t happen again.

I started transferring some of the old data off the computer to make more space on the disk. I copied all of the 2007 data and the 2008 CH4 text files to an external disk and removed them from the tower computer. Free disk space went from 2.2GB to 15GB. I’ll make sure the files are transferred to the Data PC and backed up.

I installed bird spikes on the new sonic and IRGA. And repositioned them so that the IRGA is downwind from the sonic and at the same level as the sonic. And I changed the sonic to output sos instead of Ts.

LGR was reading 1.951 ppm, 16.53C, 106.38 Torr, and 15.940 usec, 4247.2 hours on the pump. Because of the low pressure I cleaned the 40um filter and back flushed the system through the exterior 2um filter with the tank. After restarting the system, the pressure creeped up to 110.45 Torr. I have one relatively new/clean 2um filter and one 40um filter in the lab that could be swapped in, next time out.

I cleaned up a bunch of duplicate hardware drivers on the PC for serial mouse, serial ports and the Verizon modem. Reinstalled the modem and ran the wizard in the Verizon software to get a connection. I got data from it this morning so it should be back online.

Com port line up

COM2 – CR10X2
COM3 – winflux
COM5 – CR1000
COM10 – CR10X1

6 and 8 are reported as in use but I don’t know what is using them.

I copied the data and moved it to the archive folder except for the current CH4 txt files (>6GB)

I changed the serial cable on the CR1000 to a lower profile one so that the computer drawer slides in and out better.

Radiometers were clean

Started to rain when I left about 2:30pm
