Summary: Swapped Tower sonic - still problems, changed CR1000 program to restart sonic and fix difPAR, swapped 4-band radiometer, removed one sonic from wind profile, swapped tower computer.
Tonzi 2015-04-29 I arrived about 10am with Ana. It was a beautiful warm day with a breeze early that died down later. The ground was damp in the low spots and there were lots of flowers. I worked on the Tower while Ana looked for locations for IRT sensors and climbed up and down the tower bringing me things. When I got there, the computer was locked up again and the sonic was not sending data. Initially, swapping the sonic ( sn 000021 off, sn 000019 on) didn’t seem to fix the problem, but the replacement sonic did not have the correct settings. After fixing the settings data was flowing. However when I checked again later, the sonic had stopped again. Cycling the power on the sonic got it running again. I’m not sure what’s going on. I have swapped everything except the data logger and program. But the same data logger and program are running fine at four other towers. I started to modify the CR1000 program to monitor the sonic and restart it when it stopped, but that got too complicated. Instead, I settled for cycling the power on the sonic a midnight and noon every day. I connected the sonic to the SW12 channel to do this. I also made changes to the CR1000 program from the rotating shadow band diffuse PAR sensor. The 30min averages were being recorded wrong. We also swapped the 4-band radiometer. Hukseflux NR01 sn 1720 came off and Kipp and Zonen CNR1 sn 020476 went on. I did not have to change the CR23X program and the channels looked okay. The NR01 was removed due to a long history of small spikes in SW in and recent development of big spikes in all channels at dawn. I extended the NR-Lite away from the boom to avoid the larger CNR1, but it still might get some shading at low sun angles. The BF5 diffuse PAR did not have any condensation and the other radiometers were clean. The computer was locked up. A hard restart fixed it, but I decided to swap it out. I put the hard drive in another computer box and it seemed to boot up fine. I had to do some work to sort out serial ports, but everything seemed to be connecting when I was done. Ana collected data from the wind profile. She discovered that the sonic that had been bumped previously ( sn 0860) was not working. She removed it from the 3.89m location. We closed and powered the fence around the soil CO2 area that had been left open last time. |
