Adjusted |
West Pond Battery Bank |
Joe added a 4th flooded battery that tested good (2019 sticker, not sure where this battery came from--maybe removed from HS when those batteries were replaced by the 4 newer advection batteries). There are now 4 batteries connected in 24V. Hopefully this prevents the tower from dying every night. |

Maintenance |
West Pond Battery Bank |
I disconnected the batteries and tested them with the load tester. The first three from the west tested okay but the last one on the east tested weak. These are wired in 24V pairs and the one paired with the weak battery had a bunch of corrosion on its positive terminal. So I disconnected these two and left the system running on a single pair. I also check the water levels and added a little water to a couple of cells that were low. |

Tested |
West Pond Battery Bank |
The batteries looked clean and in good condition. After disconnecting and isolating them, two of the six tested bad: 4 and 5 counting from the west. The system is wired in pairs for 24V and the two bad batteries were members of adjacent pairs. They were also the only ones that had cells that were low on water. Joe removed the two bad batteries then reconnected the remaining four. |

Upgrade |
West Pond Battery Bank |
All the old batteries but one load tested week and the tower has been losing power overnight. The old batteries were replaced with new batteries from Napa Auto Parts, part #BAT 8270, 180min reserve capacity. The three old 12V 140W solar panels were replaced with two new 24V 265W panels and the battery bank was rewired as three pairs for a 24V system. |

Installed |
West Pond Battery Bank |
This is the initial installation of this battery bank for the West Pond Tower. Six deep cycle marine batteries from O'Reilly Auto Parts part #27DCM 175min reserve capacity were installed in parallel for a 12V system. |
