Summary: Learning to take DOC/DIC head space water samples, cables to boardwalk chewed - few days of CR1000 data missing.

Kyle, Inbar and I arrived at about 10:00 PDT. Inbar is here from Patty's lab to help use with grab samples for DOC/DIC and head space gas samples. It was a nice day, sunny but cool and getting windy. There is Phragmites coming up along the channel and tules poking through the thatch. Tide was near high and ebbing.

We started at the channel with Kyle and Inbar doing most of the water sampling. There are instructions and we seem to have most of the supplies needed. I'll try to go through the motions in the lab again and flesh out the instructions.

While they collected water samples I worked on downloading the data. I ran the Kor software so that Inbar could have real time data to compare with the grab sample data. Kor downloaded all the data again. I collected the CR6 data - seems the interface is working. The ADCP data seemed complete too. I stopped and restarted logging so a new file will be generated. The miniCH4 had not collected data again. The continuous readings I did manually last time were in the file but it didn't start the timed readings. I did some more continuous readings and then set it up for timed mode again. Later I checked and it had some timed readings.

I pulled up the sled to get the miniDot. I downloaded its data and put it back. I did not change its desiccant - must do next time. The sled came up covered in weeds which I cleaned off but I didn't see too many drops in the ADCP data. I should probably try for a low tide visit and try raking out the weeds.

We went to the tower at about 11:30 PDT. Kyle and Inbar tried to take some pore water with a plastic push-in sampler but the ground is too hard here. Inbar had to head back for classes and Kyle and I worked on the standard data collection.

The CR1000 was not running when we arrived. I immediately unplugged all the things in the power strip and it starting running again. I discovered that the extension cable to the box on the boardwalk was causing the problem and subsequently found some animal had chewed both cables where they make a 90 degree bend onto the boardwalk. The miniCH4, conductivity and sonic water level are affected, the METER water level having been removed previously - could have been a chew problem even then? I could not collect the miniCH4 data. I thought the sonic water level was running but maybe it was just noise.

I collected the flux, met and camera data. I put new (lightly used) batteries in the Song Meter and made sure it was running with the Bluetooth app. Kyle hung it on the scaffolding and cleaned the eddy and radiation sensors.
The 7500 read: 424ppm CO2, 444.9 mmol/m3 H2O, 18.5C, 101.1kPa, 98.8SS
The 7700 read: 2.02ppm CH4, 26RSSI
I forgot to write down the clean values. The wash reservoir was empty. We refilled in and tested it. I think there was something on the mirrors that wasn't getting washed off.

We collected data from both of the miniDots - did not swap desiccant. Kyle measured salinity

Surface, 241uS, 16.4C

The water level was 53cm at 11:05 PST

I'll come back tomorrow to see if I can do something with the chewed wires.

We left at about 12:10 PDT
