Summary: Finish Tower power upgrade, problems with PC restarts not getting sonic serial data.
| When: Thurs-Sun., Mar 27-30, JD 86-89 Where: Tonzi/Vaira Ranches Who: Ted Hehn Weather Trip Purpose: Tower reconfiguration to upgrade from 30 amp to 60 amp capability. Sunday – 09:00 Tower PC on, Gillsonic.exe running and displaying flat lines on all channels. Sonic is sending serial data stream but Gillsonic.exe not functioning – PC processor failure. Close Gillsonic.exe and reinitiate and it begins showing response on all channels. Continue with tower power reconfiguration. 13:10 Set tower watch dog timer to perform Time Event Driven Software (TEDS) reset at 13:15hr and the PC Gillsonic.exe failed to begin taking data. Disconnect battery lead to solar regulator to simulate a Low Voltage Drop Out Reset (LVDOR) and the system restarted and successfully reinitiated taking data. 17:00- Test the TEDS several times and it now seems to be functioning correctly. Reset TEDS time to 04:50hr Mr. Tonzi informed me that there were major violent winds during my absence. High winds can be a source for static charge build up on the systems. At some point the static charges will “discharge†and this usually results in microprocessor crash. This may be what caused the problems we experienced. Therefore, if anyone visits the site and finds any of the PCs or data loggers crashed, I strongly recommend that you use a “DAMP TOWEL†and wipe down the PCs, data loggers, and the inside and outside of all the enclosures to remove ant residual static charge. Misc Notes Get antibird spikes, etc on tower sonic- bird scat is literally hanging from xducers. RTV silicon holes in solar module terminal boxes. Order/build DC/DC converters for all LI7500s. |
