Install remaining dendrometer bands. Check status of sapflow sensors. Jianwu Tang also measured soil respiration. Fri. 7/6/01. Arrived at Tonzi Ranch 2:20 am Standard Time. -Measured leaf water potentials 2:34-3:53 am Standard Time. Sky still dark by finish time. -Measured LAI of transect T3. Full moon. -Sunrise ~6:30 am. -Installed dendrometer bands on trees 71 and 78. -9:20-10:30 Standard Time. Interrupted CR10X of Set Q (by understory tower) to check status of sapflow sensors. Tree 255: lower sensor's constantan wire seems to have lost long lead connection. Connections between copper wires still continuous, so break in the constantan is most likely at the soldered connection between the short and long lead. Trees 248, 252: heaters are out. -12:00-13:00 Standard Time. Installed dendrometer bands on remaining Set Q trees 245, 248 and 255. Tightened dendrometer to Tree 250. -13:49-15:31 Standard Time. Measured mid-day leaf water potentials. Comments: Set P trees definitely have better pre-dawn water status than Set Q trees (Set P, -24 +- 2 bar; Set Q, -32+=1 bar). At mid-day, the two sets of trees converge to about -34 bar, with much more variability for Set Q (+-7 bar) than for Set P (+-2 bar).
