Sherman Island: 2007-04-26 12:00:00 (DOY 116)
Author: Dennis Baldocchi
Others: Matteo Detto & Ted Hehn

Summary: Calibrated methane sensor. Downloaded Sherman Island data. Took TDR soil moisture readings. Took spectrometer reflectance readings.

When: Date: 4/26/2007 , Day: 116 , Watch Time: 1200 .

Where: Sherman Island Methane Study

Who: ddb, th, md

Weather: clear, windy, west winds, mild temperature; field to the due east is flooded and with ducks etc. fetch has dry field

Phenology: pepper weed about 70 cm tall.

Installed new and improved cow fence

Tasks

  1. check and download data at Sherman Island
  2. Take TDR soil moisture readings
  3. take spectrometer reflectance reading
  4. Sample additional water Table ports
  5. Sample LAI and plant height

Sherman Island Pasture Site

  1. Fence and gate power: ok v.
  2. Datalogger Solar Panel and Batteries: 11.9 v; voltage is drawing down
  3. Reading from Gillsonic screen before downloading data. (The value of H2O and CO2 should be in the range of 0 – 5 v.)

    1. Cell Pressure (near 159 Torr?):_____159.4
    2. Cell Temperature: _____29.6
    3. Double Check

i. Sample rate: 10Hz?:__ok_

ii. Methane ppm Hi flow:

iii. Methane ppm, low flow (remember to put back in high flow:

iv. Pump status??:____

v. Filter Status:______

Calibrated the methane sensor with the NOAA CMDL standard 1897.8 ppm.

With the standard the reading was 1901 ppb.

After we reset calibration and it became 1897 ppb again. A 4 ppb drift over 20 days of operation.

vi. Check Water in tube:

3 feet, 5.5 inches at reference (41.5 in) or 1054 mm at 400 mm above soil.

Water Table at 65.4 cm.

  1. downloading data
  2. If Swapping Li-7500 Analyzer. (Remove SN# ; install SN# )
  3. Check the fans of air temp. and relative humidity sensors
  4. Check MD-9 system connections
  5. Check CR23X with two multiplexers and sensor values
  6. Check levels of Radiation sensors, clear up surfaces.

P 101.9 kPa, T 23.4C, rh 45%, Tsoil 24 to 16C, 16C at 50 cm, profiles look good.

Theta probes about 800 mv

Closed gate and set up fence.
