Notes from Tonzi November 19, 2008

Sunny, warm, few high thin clouds, light to no breeze.

Starting about 8:30am I added about 1 gallon of water to the batteries at the base of the tower. All batteries were a little low on water but the system voltage was above 12V.

The fence charger is still reading in the yellow. I walked the fence and cleared some branches and weeds but no improvement. Battery and solar panel seem okay.

Mapped location of soil temperature, heat flux and moisture probes.

Floor:

The tram was still at its charging station. I replace the power supply for its battery charger and it began drawing about 2amps of power from the solar panels. While I worked on other things I debated benefits of leaving the tram to see if it would charge up and start working against the deficit of having it draw down the batteries if it still had problems. In the end I decide to bring the tram in for a redesign.

The computer at the floor tower was running and had collect continuous data since Nov 15 near 9am. There was a break in the data from just before midnight Nov 14 until the following morning. There was also an unexplained break in the data around 6pm on Nov 13. Siyan had visited the site in the morning of Nov 13 and I had visited the site in the afternoon of Nov 14.

I checked the computer clock and data logger clocks. The clocks were ahead of my cell phone time by 2 minutes 35 seconds. Daylight savings time adjustment was/is off.

Batteries at Floor site didn’t need any water.

Checked batteries at the soil CO2 site and added water to the two batteries powering the CO2 sensor near the tree.
