Trip Purpose: Predawn water potential measurement, check 3 flux systems and download data, soil moisture probe reading, dendrometer reading

We are compacting the soil in the floor met station, we are making trails under the net radiometer. As I talked to Ted this morning, we need move some of stuff out and install a simple fence around the met station (including all the met and soil sensors) with wire.

Tonzi Ranch: Arrived at 4:30 for predawn water potential: Results;

Dendrometer reading:

Vaira Ranch: 7:00 arrived. Fence OK, Flux system running greatly. All met and soil sensors working. Soil moisture reading (see below). PV read; 12.3, 2.1 and 3.1 at 7:15 with fully charged battery. Deleted all 2001 and 2002 met, flux and raw data, now C: has 3.65 GB. Watchdog program does not reboot pc everyday. Gillsonic.exe outputs are

Tower system: The flux system was running, but missing some flux data last week. PV reading at the base of the tower were 12.5, 0.0 3.3 with fully charged battery. Fuse for pump of the CO2 profile system was burned out, replaced with a new one, pump back to OK.

Floor system: datalogger CR10X4 (for Nancy’s sapflow) is dead, due to the low battery voltage. Need bring a fully charged one next time. All other data loggers communicate well with pc.

Soil moisture reading.

All Jianwu’s soil CO2 probe are working. At the open space, the three probe reading 470 ppm, 770 ppm, and 0.16%, while under the tree canopy, the three readings 1180 ppm (2cm). 0.42% (8cm) and 0.71% (16cm).
