Summary: Lots of cows, standard fieldwork, measured tree heights

High cirrus, light winds. The grass is still green, but there is drying in the region. The grass is past its peak.

Plenty of cows on the ranch and actively grazing.

Tower:

N2 is empty. Needs to be swapped
CO2 is at 700psi. Close to empty and needs to be swapped.
Power: load 4.9 amps, Batt V 13.3. Tower load, with the profile system and wind profile is much higher than the 2.4 amps of the floor and Vaira system.

Pc is operating a ok. Found the data Ram memory in this pc.

All signal on scale.

Pulled out ram after storing and transferring data. Rebooted, but the sonic system hung up and would not talk to the I/O port. Re-powered the whole system and rebooted. Got the flux system up and going.

Ted: to minimize the I/O problem weâ€™ve been having is it better to reboot the whole power bus, rather than just the pc. This would reset the sonic????? Yes???

After repower the system went into chkdsk mode, but reboot was relatively quick.

Checked soil data loggers

Tsoil ~ 15C, P 994, Ta 22 C, RH 24%

Confused about the grounding of the soil system. Is this the source of our problem with some sort of ground loop. Red comes from the power bus and goes to +12, but black goes straight to a ground post. The logger seems to be floating.

Floor.
Pwer bus ok. Volt 14V, 15.8 amp gen and 2.3 amp load.

Only 523M was available on storage. Deleted all the raw data from 2003 since it is back up at UCB and ddb and lx.
Grass around the flux system is still green.

Reset calling times on the data loggers, so they are called before the tasks that rename the system. Was having a problem where data from the last run ended up on the next day and we had to edit by hand. Hope this all works. Am calling several of the loggers at the same time. Hope it does not interfere. Anyway loggers are called min 1 to 10 and task min 15-20.

To DO: Install Rnet boom. It has been on the ground for a long time and needs to be on the tower. The net is hard to reach and is dusty. With the swing boom we can clean the system better and easier.

Need clip on lanyards for the safety belts. At present they donâ€™t tie to anything.

Need to put water bottle and cloth at 22 m on the tower to clean the irga and sonic.

Climbed tower. The sonic and irga were clean. Net had a little dust. Pyranometer was ok.

Notice we are measuring PAR with the LICOR. We need to switch to KZ. The pars licor degrade too fast. First task for Siyan is to work up the calibration data.

Took soil data and measured some tree heights and dbh.

Took a bunch of tree ht samples with the laser hypsometer. Random sampling:

Mean: 8.12 m
Stdev: 2.17 m

Close to our standard value.
