Summary: Set up flux tower and solar panels.
| October 8 Went to Vaira ranch, near Ione. 110 miles from my home in Oakland Set up the flux tower and a set of solar panels. Fenced off the solar panels and flux tower. Lots of cows in the area. The grassland is not perfectly open. There is pure grass from the tower to the north west for 100 m then a few trees and more grassland, out to 200 m. I suspect trees will not be a problem during the grass growing season, as they will be dormant. But it is not a perfect site because of the mixture trees and grass. The site is flat. Bill Frost is perfoming NPP studies there and it is close to the Tonzi ranch and Mr. Vaira is very cooperative. It also has potential for advection and slope studies in the future. So far 4 panels are set up and the flux tower is at 2 m. Want to go higher for spectra, but may not for fetch. Need to compute transfer functions and footprint. |
